I need 4 volunteers, I'll take one from each conference, to help with the draw for the schedule next season.
First some history. In SESL my team, DEV, always seemed to play DUM first league game of the season. Teams are assigned to the schedule numbers alphabetically and it was only when a team before D was promoted that the cycle was broken. In United it's probably the same but my teams are mid-ish alphabetically.
In TMVL I quickly realised that we would always play St Charles and Carlsbad (who were a great team then) followed by Quincy. I think Al had it set up so that the home/away was switched each season but still: little ol' Columbia playing the top 3 teams every season...
So I asked, "can we randomise the schedule. If St Charles play 2 to 7 then 2 to 7 again (alternating hime/away) could be start in a random position in those 14 games? Columbia would still play the teams in the same order but not always in the first two sessions."
Al said, "sure. Can you sort that out but also arrange it so that no team plays two home conference games in the same session?"
And so began a couple of weeks of hair pulling until I worked out the current schedule. Some of you might have noticed that you played a team in week 2 and don't play them again until week 11.

What I'll do is send each volunteer the team_id numbers for the conference. For instance St Charles is 1, Columbia 2 and Quincy is 6. You will assign letters A to H randomly to those numbers and send the list to me and Al.
Meanwhile I'll assign A to H randomly to numbers 101 to 108, 109 to 116 etc which are used in my schedule spreadsheet and send these to Al as well.
I will need to do something similar with non-conference games but this has to wait until the end of the season.
And there might be the WGM to sort out.
This doesn't sound to onerous to do Steve! Count me in for some random assignments of numbers to letters.
