 | Season 3 - National Championship & Holyoke -- Bubble Watch! Posted by |
At the end of sesion 8 on October 9th, we will know who is in the National Championship bracket and who plays in the Holyoke Invitational.
The Top 8 teams play in the National Championship while the next 8 play in the Holyoke Invite (Holyoke, MA is the home if the International Volleyball Hall of Fame).
Selection of Teams
Top 8 is determined in this manner:
- Conference Winners (2)
- Conference Tournament Winners (2)
- WGM Cup Winner (1)
- If a team wins more than one of the above, note that there will be no automatic bids to 2nd place team in any of the above competitions.
- 3 (or more) wild card teams with the next best overall record (overall match win pct, set win pct, points for/against pct.)
Seeding of Teams
- Teams in each competition are seeded based on overall record then tiebreakers as needed (overall match win pct, set win pct, points for/against pct.)
Format
- Single elimination.
- All matches neutral court
Who is In?
- Baton Rouge (Western Conference Champion)
- Quincy (Eastern Conference Champion)
Who is knocking at the door?
- St. Charles, Sheboygan, and Carlsbad. If they win their conference/WGM cup match they are in.
- Sheboygan and Carlsbad should be in based on record. Likely St. Charles too.
Who else is in the hunt?
- many teams on the bubble.

Season 2 Holyoke Champions: New Orleans (Kevin Martin)
Side note: The aforementioned Mr. Cabral and Mr. Martin will play a BIG MATCH this weekend (Teutopolis @ New Orleans). Winner makes a good case for a top 8 spot one would think...

Am I right in thinking we are going to be (knocked out of the first round of) in the National Championship? If we lose both games we finish 13-13 and I can't see enough teams beating 500 below us.
I think you are in good shape Steve and probably have clinched a top 8 spot. But we have so many stat-heads in the league that I'll let them confirm or deny.
In any event maybe winning a couple more gets you to a #5 v #4 matchup rather than a 6-3, 7-2, or 8-1...
And NO ONE wants to play a Columbia team with Olmec on his side...
Recent results have me thinking Olmec is pushing to let us try to defend our Holyoke title this season.
