Quiz and Tutorial - Blocking (BLK)

BLOCKING - How it works in TMVL

Blocking Article created by Steve Turner

The number of blockers depends on the set (1-3) rating. The blocker or blockers depends on the attacker. Only front row players block.

Set 3 Rating

A Set 3 will have just one blocker and his chance of blocking is simply 10% of his block skill. For example a defender with a 15 BLK rating has a 1.5% chance of blocking a set 3.

If the attacker is the front row OH then the blocker will be the S or RS. With the RS attacking it's the OH, and with the MB or back row OH it's the MB who blocks.

Set 2 Rating
A Set 2 will have two blockers and their chance of blocking is 80% of their total block skill. So with blockers with skill 14 and 16 the chance of a block is 24%.

If the attacker is the front row OH the blockers are the MB and RS/S. If the attacker any other it's the MB and OH.

Set 1 Rating

A Set 1 will have all three blockers and it's 80% of their total block skill. If the blockers have BLK ratings of 10, 14, and 16 then they will have a 32% chance of blocking the attack. Again, all three blockers will be front row players: OH, MB and RS/S (depending on which is front row at the time).

Home Court and Blocking

When your team is at home, a player's blocking skill is increased by 1 for that match.

Additional Notes

You can see how important a set 3 is. That doesn't happen without:
a) Having a very good setter (SET skill)
b) Having very good passers/serve receivers (SRV skill)

Please keep that in mind. If you pass well and you set well, you can run any of those front row attackers and have a great chance NOT to get blocked.
