Fitness in First round

Was just wondering seeing how all my players are at 0 fitness, should I be training that at all in the first round?

I agree with Craig and would recommend against using CP for fitness. You can increase your players' fitness by stragetically resting them over the course of the first two or three sessions.

Now I think it depends on your players, Matt. Al Sellers spend all his CP on Fit 2 seasons ago and had a great season. I often Fit players in the first session but try to do what Jason suggests as well

What I would do is decide what CP you want to use on players and guess how much you'll have this season. You have 62, will get 605 in the first 11 sessions and last season picked up 50 from 13 wins @3 per win and 11 from losses. If you think you'll have a similar season then see if you'll CP to spare on Fit.

Last season I spent 12 CP to increase the Fit of OH Adrian Ball.  He isn't a great player but the 12 CP I spent increased 5 key skills in one go for a player who played a lot. Yes he's down on one skill because of that but I ended up with enough CP to increase a skill and XP to increase another.

I guess it depends.  Past three seasons I have rested the older better players in session 1, coached for Fitness the youngsters who will play session 2, to basically end with a fully fit squad for session 2.   Which will help win sets more so than early coaching.

If everyone does this, then great - battle of the squad players.

But it has the potential to hamper the season.  Early losses in the conference, will put you behind and may affect the Tourney seeding.  A WGM loss will prevent you from getting a decent/top seeding for the knockout. 

Which of course with different choices, priorities and ideas makes the game interesting.

This is my "Moneyball" strategy, but I'm going to give it away....

I rest my seniors and juniors when I can, but I gladly play my freshmen the first couple of sessions to both get the XP and only have to pay 4CP to get a +1 in all stats right off the bat. I sometimes even do it with sopohmores. 

James is right about the tradeoffs, though, especially the WGM Cup. Poor seeding in that tourney is rough.

I  don´t have as much experience with this game as the others so naturally i have been doing the opposite and using vitually all my CP´s for fitness until all my squad are maxed out on full fitness. A few players do this by not playing games, but I do like to play my best players in the first session still to get at least one conference win under my belt and to get some good results in the WGM Cup. It has helped me to get to one semi final in the WGM Cup and one final in three seasions which has been fun. On top of this I have not had a problem in training up all the players I want to train up although there have been a few who I have kind of written off with no training at all or the odd incrase here or there when I have some spare. So don´t be afraid to go down this route as it can work. Having said that I might try something different this season as my Setters are currently so poor I can´t see myself reaching the WGM final again or any other final for that matter this season.
