Recruiting idea
Posted by John Holden on Saturday, Oct. 1st, 2022 at 4:28 AM

I've now got my four recruits for next season. This is good news. You want to have four recruits if you can get them, especially since there's not always enough recruits to go round.

You can't recruit more than four during the season, however. Now that I have four, I'm locked out of recruiting more.

With 339 RP left there's nothing wrong with this considering I need to add to the bank for next season, however it'd be nice to be able to make a splash for a final 5* player.

Therefore I'm suggesting a rule where you increase the number of discoverable recruits to 5, but if you recruit 5, you don't get your free 3* at the end of the season.

It's unlikely to change gameplay much if at all but would give coaches another gameplay option.

I would love to recruit a 5-star for 339 RP

Right?!?

Question about how it is currently programmed:

Imagine this scenario - a team has 3 recruits already, and has spent the RP to be in the competitive bidding stage 3 on two separate players.  They win the first player they are competitively bidding on, and are now at 4.  The 2nd player that they have a competitive bid on comes up.  Is the bid blocked by the program currently?  Or do those checks come into play after the session, and they could possibly win 2 players that session to be at 5?

I'd settle for recruiting 3 at this point....

I think we should remain restricted to 4.

The recruiting mechanism in this game I find fascinating.  I have spent far too much time thinking about it.   Limted resources, finite number of players you can obtain, when and when not to show interest, predicting what may occur, plus some luck.   Many board games are built on less!   (The mechanism reminds me slightly (very) of the boardgame Ra, where you have 4 bids per round (epoch) to get resources and bidding chips for the next round).     Nevermind it also being added on to a great Sports simulation and resource management game of CPs and XPs.

If we extend to 5 then you will have the potential of many teams collecting 5 and others missing* out and upsetting the balance.  I have 4 too, I would like to have a go for a bargain, but that is an element of the fascination, when do the bargains occur, do I need to keep a slot free so I don't miss out?

* Quite a penalty for getting 2 or less

I have that game. Only played it once with my daughter and Mike Dean. I won it at a Psychocon run by Mike for winning the Puerto Rico tournament a fair few years ago. Psychocon was named after Psychopath where I played PSFA run by Rob Petersonand which eventually led me here. There's my origin story on here somewhere.

I think the alternative would having the recruiting display a checkmark once you have four instead of a big red X :smiling emoji:

This is just my thoughts on recruiting and being new and not completely understanding how the whole thing works exactly but bear with me please.

It seems that everyone can bid all the time for a recruit and it seems that alot of the same teams get the big players and that's probably because they have the resources and knowledge on what to do to get who they want.

I'm wondering if there should be something in place to help out those teams who keep missing out on the 5 star and even some of the 4 star recruits. Could there be a idea of if a team has 2-3 5 star recruits locked up that they can't bid on any of the 5 stars for the next session or two just to try and even things out?

Now I'm not writing this because I only have one recruit so far, but it is something I have been thinking about.

Again, I still haven't fully worked out the whole recruiting thing so please be nice in responses :D

Thanks
