World Cup Pick'em Competition
Posted by Allan Sellers on Thursday, Jun. 10th, 2010 at 11:59 PM

Hi guys,

MSWL UNITED is pleased to offer the World Cup Pick'em Competition.  For each first round match (48 games), you can pick a winner or select a draw.  If you are correct you get a tally in that column.  If you are wrong, you get a tally in the Wrong column.

To win the competition you'll need to make a pick in at least 75% of the matches (36 matches).  You must make your selection BEFORE the game starts for your pick to be used.  The "competition table" will be ordered like this:  1) BEST Correct minus Wrong differential and if tied then 2) MOST Correct answers.

15k for the winner, 10k for 2nd place, 5k for 3rd place.  That's not too much, but adds a little incentive (as if you need any)...and again, its not that much.  So don't start arguing with me about it.

So in short.  No one has to play, but if you want to give it a try do the following:

1) Post a follow up on THIS FORUM by choosing the winner (or just say Draw if that's your pick) from the list below.

2) Come back on Sunday when I have this automated and it will be easier.

3) Put in your selection BEFORE the FIFA kickoff time (see this link then click on the little clock showing your own time to see when they start).

Again its all for fun and Mad Max is already mad at me because I had to tell him I can't go to his baseball game on Saturday as it conflicts with Estados Unidos y Inglaterra!  This could get me in trouble...

Anyway, please go ahead and reply to this thread with your picks for these Friday/Saturday/Sunday games and I'll add them into the database I'll create.

Al

@Compo: Budweiser?  What are you drinking that gnat's pee for?  Of course, if you meant Budvar then you are exonerated, since that is excellent stuff.

Andy Bate on Friday, Jun. 11th, 2010 at 1:40 PM

The thing is Andy, Czech republic arent in the Finals so it against all protocols to drink anything from another country on a football fun night, next week its Algeria night cus cus and some other strange food and some other unknown beer to drink, then Solvenia night well not quite sure what they drink and eat so could go hungry that night?? I will find that stuff you are on about and give it ago.

Rats. Should have checked earlier and gotten on to get the easy S.A. over Mex pick.  Too late though, as that game is already started.  For others:

1830 GMT Uruguay - France (draw)

1830 GMT England - USA  (England win)

Sunday

James White on Saturday, Jun. 12th, 2010 at 1:11 PM

Kevin should lose points on the SA-MEX result given his showboating over a pick made after the match started and he still got it wrong.

Phil McIntosh on Sunday, Jun. 13th, 2010 at 4:55 AM

One third of the way through and Dr. McLeod is in the lead!  I'm doing PRETTY DARN WELL myself though.  :-)

Allan Sellers on Thursday, Jun. 17th, 2010 at 2:44 AM

So, the leader of this competition has...ZERO points?  Another reason soccer doesn't catch on in America.  Even the fantasy leagues are low scoring...

Phil McIntosh on Saturday, Jun. 19th, 2010 at 4:28 AM

Funny that C-Ball leads this thing (as of 24 June) and he does not even follow international soccer.  I thought Al coded this league to prevent such travesties.

Brian Beerman on Thursday, Jun. 24th, 2010 at 6:30 AM

I am a quick study.  :)

Mike Cabral on Friday, Jun. 25th, 2010 at 10:03 AM

I hear you Dr. Beerman.  I'lll certainly have to check the code further if this C-Ball "anomalous" result continues!  :-)

Speaking of which...final day and C-Ball leads...barely over Mr. McLeod.

Allan Sellers on Friday, Jun. 25th, 2010 at 12:46 PM

Or it just goes to show how screwed up this competition is this year.  All expected results get thrown out the window as upsets occur all over.  Or did C-Ball "study" as he allegedly got through college: always pick "C" (i.e. pick 'em all as a draw)?

Kevin Martin on Friday, Jun. 25th, 2010 at 10:04 PM

World Cup Competition Final Results!

Rank Coach Correct Wrong
1. Mike Mcleod 25 18
2. Mike Cabral 23 21
3. Alon Atie 19 17

15k to Mr. McLeod, 10k to Mr. Cabral, and 5k to Mr. Atie. Thanks everyone for playing and congratulations Mike, Mike, and Alon!
