Fourty Niners or Cheifs?
Posted by John Holden on Friday, Feb. 9th, 2024 at 10:15 AM

Compo asked a good question in the other thread so I thought I would give it some love - who do you want to win the Super Bowl? Or, who do you think will win the Super Bowl? Or, who do you prefer?

I almost decided on a "Don't care" choice but you have to make a decision here.

I like Mahomes, but I am already tired of the Chiefs. (This must have been what everyone outside of New England felt about the Patriots for ~20 years. Haha)

It's almost too close to call in my opinion. The 49's had to come back to make the Super Bowl, and they objectively looked very good in that second half comeback. If I were a team, I would prefer a stonger second half than first half. The Chiefs really kicked things up a notch when the playoffs started; they look stronger than they did during the second half of the regular season. (Playoffs? Playoffs?! We're talking about the playoffs?!)

San Francisco - 27

Kansas City - 24

Hate the 49ers

Dave Dohm on Friday, Feb. 9th, 2024 at 7:01 PM

I haven't watched American Football for a couple of years but when I did I liked watching the Chiefs win - but then got bored of them.

Steve Turner on Friday, Feb. 9th, 2024 at 7:55 PM

I think it will be the Chiefs. They have more experience at the Super Bowl, so that gives them a little bit of advantage. But at the other hand, I don´t really follow NFL, only looking at the results, so I could be very wrong about it.

Pierre van Rossum on Saturday, Feb. 10th, 2024 at 6:17 AM

I love Dave Dohm.

This is a great time to be a Chiefs fan. It's an incredible thing to have been in the AFC championship six consecutive years, and four Super Bowls in five years. I'm enjoying the ride, and my wife's chili.

I think this game is a toss up. SF has the better team, but Mahomes and Kelce and Reid just keep finding ways to win. I thought Miami was the better team, then Buffalo had the better team, then Baltimore. Yet the Chiefs won all three games. I'm not betting against Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid on Sunday evening. I learned that lesson years ago.

Phil McIntosh on Saturday, Feb. 10th, 2024 at 7:58 AM

Cheifs, chefs or chiefs?

Paul Cockayne on Saturday, Feb. 10th, 2024 at 11:29 AM

Pierre, having watched NFL for 40+ years, past playoff experience rarely, if at all, results in a better outcome (e.g. see Bowls 21, 36, 42, 48).

PS, welcome to the league!

Brian Beerman on Saturday, Feb. 10th, 2024 at 3:42 PM

Not a fan of the 9ers, but I think they're the better team. I think they win handidly.

Rob Peterson on Saturday, Feb. 10th, 2024 at 4:36 PM

Wait....what.....someone loves me? Go Hawks (Iowa and Seattle)

Dave Dohm on Saturday, Feb. 10th, 2024 at 5:09 PM

Never really had an (American) football team, but I guess I'd lean towards SF as I have family out there.

What's the nearest team to Pekin?

Roger Mendonça on Saturday, Feb. 10th, 2024 at 8:16 PM

I am guessing Chicago Bears is the nearst one to Pekin, but I suspect an american can probably correct me! They had a few good teams I think, when I was first interested in American Football thet were managed by Mike Ditka. They had some giant defensive guy in their lineup called the Refrigerator who was notoriously remployed as an unstoppable running back to score a famous touchdown against the Packers.

Vick Hall on Sunday, Feb. 11th, 2024 at 4:12 PM

Think Chiefs will win but like both teams from watching them.  Love the Brock Purdy storry of being the last picked (Mr Irrelevant) to being on the cusp of superbowl glory. Mahones setting up a dynasty for the chiefs in a league aimed at achieving parity between teams  is also an appealing narative.

Alon Atie on Sunday, Feb. 11th, 2024 at 7:27 PM

It's on so late I never get past half time anymore 😂, but I watched the 49ers back in the 80s with Joe Montana so let's go with them, although this chiefs team seems to be unstoppable and maybe Kelce is proposing tonight 😉

Simon Compton on Sunday, Feb. 11th, 2024 at 11:12 PM

Newsflash: It's the Chiefs!

Phil McIntosh on Monday, Feb. 12th, 2024 at 5:35 AM

Any blocked/missed kick in the Super Bowl always comes back to haunt that team. The trend continues.

Brian Beerman on Monday, Feb. 12th, 2024 at 1:19 PM

Vick, I remember that Patriots-Bears game. I was rooting for the Patriots who lost 46-10 (yes I remember the score). The Refrigerator was William Perry.

I bought a game (can't remember the name) that was based on that season's stats. So if a RB's best run that season was 70 yards and the "dice" fell right then he made a 70 yard run.

Steve Turner on Tuesday, Feb. 13th, 2024 at 9:43 PM

The unfortunate thing about Super Bowl XX (Bears vs Patriots) is that there was apparently a rift between coach Mike Ditka and HOF running back Walter Payton (arguably the best RB off all time...we can debate that elsewhere). With the opportunity to give Walter an easy touchdown in a Super Bowl, Ditka decided to give the ball to William Perry instead. Yes it was a memorable TD, but it took just a touch away from Ditka's legendary '85 Bears team.

Brian Beerman on Wednesday, Feb. 14th, 2024 at 2:27 AM

I picked the Chiefs, well, today.

John: We know you are a lawyer.  We know you do not spell words incorrectly.  We know your usage of "Chefs" and "Cheifs" is you giving Phil a hard time.  Why?  Because I did it all in the 2000s...

Phil: Please don't encourage Dave Dohm or tell him you love him.  The next thing you know he will be buying you breakfast.

Vick: You are right.  Chicago is closest to Pekin.

Alon: You picked the Chiefs and you are always right.  I should have just asked you who would win and then placed a bet!

Compo: What do you mean its late?  Overtime started at like 9:00pm my time and I went to sleep at the start of it.  Was it later than that for you?  😎

Steve: That was 1985-86.  MY freshman year of college at the University of Illinois.  I'm from the part of Illinois that is NOT Chicago.  My Miami Dolphins were the only team to beat Chicago (I was so happy) that season and while they didn't make it to the Super Bowl it prevented all my cocky Chicago friends and their team from going 17-0 (or 19-0; I can't remember).  I was so happy. 😎  They all cursed at me when my Dolphins won.  Probably because I reminded them a lot.

Allan Sellers on Wednesday, Feb. 14th, 2024 at 11:57 PM

My wife is from the part of Illinois that is not Chicago.

I actually did place a wager on this event while I was in Vegas last summer. Now, where did I put that ticket ???

I thought Al was a Packers fan.

I heard Al had lunch with another MSWL manager and bought lunch. I guess he found his wallet after "misplacing" it in Vegas. If I had not had to buy the ENTIRE Sellers family breakfast at that chic egg spot I could have put even MORE money on the Chiefs. Al owes me a lot of money but if he gives me $5 I'll call it even.

Tragic news out of KC following the parade. I was watching during lunch at my favorite Mexican restaurant, and it was such a great celebration. Sadness and anger now.

Phil McIntosh on Thursday, Feb. 15th, 2024 at 1:32 AM

It was definitely a good game. I ended up making out fairly well on super bowl squares, so that was the important part for me!

And yeah, what a scar on the celebration. People never cease to disappoint me.

Rob Peterson on Saturday, Feb. 17th, 2024 at 4:10 PM

Never expected to see another overtime Super Bowl in my life. That was fun (despite the result).

Brian Beerman on Saturday, Feb. 17th, 2024 at 6:40 PM

Wearing my Chiefs gear all over Disney this week. 49er fans shaking their fist. Bills fans shedding tears. Dolphin fans seem oblivious.

Phil McIntosh on Friday, Mar. 15th, 2024 at 4:06 PM

Well Phil, my Dolphins fans all had frostbite so they have no fingers to shake and their eyes can no longer produce tears.  Thanks Phil!

Allan Sellers on Friday, Mar. 15th, 2024 at 10:54 PM

Those Fins fans must be thankful as they so often have reasons to cry.

Al is. Dolphins fan?

Phil McIntosh on Saturday, Mar. 23rd, 2024 at 1:29 PM

Thank you, Buffalo Bills.
