Order of Events
Posted by Trevor Taylor on Wednesday, Feb. 18th, 2009 at 10:36 AM

Al,

Just an observation. Why do cp's not take effect on the team for the current match sessions?

Surely coaching and fitness training using cp's gained from the previous sessions games should have an effect before the next round of games?

I suggest a straightforward order for events so everyone knows what is going on.

Coaching

Play Games

Auctions and Transfers.

According to the Rules, the following is the order of execution:

17.2 ORDER OF SESSIONS Within each session, events take place in the following order: matches

(League, FA Cup, FA Shield, AP Cup, and Youth Cup; in that order), receive income, coach players,

trades, and auction.

Theoretically, the matches are played throughout the week. Therefore, the income from the matches would accumulated throughout the week and the team wouldn't realize the profit until all matches for the week are over. Same thing can be said for the coaching - players don't realize the impact of all the coaching and training until the end of the week, after the matches are over.

It would probably be more logical to do this to open a session (like coaching during the week).

However, I'm max'd out in terms of how much time I've put into this to get us to this point.

It will take a re-think in a few areas including the orders page to make this happen.  So if its something we want to do we can put it on the Season 2 To-Do list for evaluation at that point.

I'm going to just move this thread over there so we can come back to it then.

If the shift is made so that coaching occurs "during the week" so it's done first in the order of events, shouldn't Fitness also be that way? You build up the players' fitness prior to the matches and then he plays three (or more) matches and wears it back down, not the other way around. And in either case, that does lead to a question regarding the orders page.

Right now, the orders page is easy to read and adjust. The bottom also makes it very clear when a manager will be in violation of the 3:1 rules.  If you shift to the CP/Fit being added prior to matches, then that will change your outfield areas' total points.  The orders page should reflect that.

Trying to simplify things for Al's coding as well, would it be possible to move the Coaching/Fitness lines to the left of the match position boxes, instead of at the far right? They would be right after the players' current stats. Then you could slide a new column in with a "Revised SL" tag or something similar following those that would update the combined SL+Fit totals if the manager purchases CP or Fit for that player.  That column would be the one the lineup calculator checks, instead of the baseline.

What I also like about the pre-match addition is that it adds just enough unpredictability without going overboard. The last picture you get of the other team is how they played last session.  What they did in the week for preparation is effectively hidden. When the players hit the pitch, you won't know which guys have improved, or had their fitness boosted to be able to play the whole session, until you see the results. As it sits now, you have a very good guess about guys on low Fit being able to play or not. Putting a big question mark about that top FW sitting at -3 or -2 being available for the first or last match of a session makes for less predictability and more second-guessing, which would hopefully make for more buildup and anticipation of match results.

While I think Kevin's notion of a measure of unpredictability has a lot of merit that needs to be considered, I wouldn't dream of making a change to the order of execution in Season 1. We do have to keep in mind that the whole notion of this league is to keep things simple for everyone - for Al as the programmer/commish and for all of us as managers.

Which is why this is under the Season 2 possible changes headers!
