DIETICIAN
Posted by Vick Hall on Monday, May. 20th, 2024 at 10:54 PM
ok here is the next proposal for a brb to discuss. Decided to use one of James´ ideas this time.  The brb in the photo is clearly transgender. Probably played for Rainworth Miners or maybe Forest Green.

DIETICIAN

Why?

We all get fond of some of our players and this BRB may keep a few of your favorite players in the game for longer. The kind of BRB that Arsene Wenger introduced when he took over at Arsenal and is now a common aspect of the modern game.

What does he do?

Puts some of your outfield players on a regular nutritionally improved diet (no beer even for a Beerman team!) to help lengthen the span of their playing careers. 2-3 players Age III or above age 2 levels less than normal. Not applicable to GK or SW positions.

Issues to Consider

How many players (or levels) should this brb apply his benefits too?

Advantages/Disadvantages to this BRB?

Is there a downside to keeping a few players in the game for a bit longer. Managers may need less money to replace ageing stars not so often and maybe less urgency to bring through youth players. However, teams will still need 8 youth players to play in the Youth Cup.

This brb will have no immediate effect when hired in his first year until season end when players age, unlike other brb´s who have more of an immediate impact. He still needs to be on your staff for a full year to be used at season end.

To help you weigh up the benefits of this brb, James provided some analysis The existing coach BRB saves a team 30-40 CP a year based on 3-4 players being coached per session and is worth more to a winning team than a losing one, but is also worth more to a weak team than a strong one. To have a rough equivalence the Dietician could only work on 2 players a season (2 levels), saving around 40CP. A fully trained Age 1 lvl 10 player with help from a Dietician each year from age 3 onwards could end up an Age 8 lvl 11 player. Give him the Captaincy and you have a lvl 19 player on your books which is why the Dietician can only be used for outfield players (Df/Mf/Fw).   End of Season levels (with Captaincy) - 1/15, 2/16, 3/16, 4/17 (21), 5/17 (22) , 6/16 (22) , 7/14 (21) , 8/11 (19).

I don't see this one saving CP as much as creating super-players across the league.  You still have to spend the CP each season to raise the SL.  Less of it goes away though, so the players just get stronger, and the Captaincy gets more potent each season.  Assuming Vick's proposed 2 players max, 2 less SL lost at end of season aging for players age III or older, for now.

As of this post, there are a handful of teams (I saw 3 at a quick scan of rosters, could be one or two I missed) this season whose top two Fws in combo can potentially generate 39 SL as a duo. (When max SL + 2 Fit each + one is the Captain, such as II/16 & III/16+3C, +4 for Fit; or III/17+3C & IV/15 + 4 Fit)

With this BRB, every team in the league within a few seasons could have two players at V/17+2 Fit+5 Captain on one (=effective 24 SL + 19 SL), which is 43 SL as as duo.  Or a IV/17+2 Fit (19) and a VI/16+2 Fit+6 Captain (24).  That's just developing your own, no auction buys of "+1" stars necessary.  There are multiple combos that get you a better 2-player total than any team is currently capable of having.

I see this having a lopsided effect on "T11 twice/bottom 11 once" match play, and an even greater impact on the older players dominating in the Youth Cup (unless we change those rules too and ban any age III+ or IV+ player from participating).  +1 SL super-players may still get more attention in the auction (and higher prices), yet their value decreases some (1 more SL than current peak of effective 22=4.5% boost; 1 more SL than possible 24 effective SL peak=4.2% boost; ignoring Gk/Sw as this doesn't apply to them, and recognizing that 1 extra scoring chance per match player varies greatly in value depending mostly on opposing Sw/Gk skill).

The trouble with playing your two or three older top players in the youth team games is that they are probably missing from a league game or even two if your team is also having another cup run. I´ve tried this tactic in my own youth cup games and still never progess far in the youth cup, but then that may just be because I am cursed in the youth cup! Banning players of a certain age entering the youth cup may be a way round unbalancing issues in this competition though.

I want the BRB that secretly places donuts and twinkies in the other teams locker. Works to shave a few SL off the roster as the greedy little grubbers graze their way through the buffet.

If it ain't broke...

It´s good to shake things up a bit every now and again and keep Managers on their toes. Adding some new brb´s will do that and hopefully make for a more interesting game (not saying the game is not already interesting of course - it´s certainly my favorite football management game that I play in and that´s party down to the enthusiasm of the other managers that play in it)

How about a real life dietician that stops me from picking up that second donut while I'm watching my team get destroyed by the Evil Empire?

Jason Halpin on Saturday, May. 25th, 2024 at 3:18 PM

I know the feeling although in my case I am reaching for the rum.

Vick Hall on Saturday, May. 25th, 2024 at 3:31 PM

I like the concept, but it is certainly a very strong BRB.

But ofc the BRB values do differ much already, e.g. ground keeper vs youth coach.

As Vick said, it would force players to reevaluate their training patterns, which - as long as the system doesn't break - is generally a good idea.

I don't see the super player issues as well, since you already can easily get a IV/13 captain with ESL 19.

And since you could have only one captain, anyway, the net effect of e.g. a age VII captain would be only 3 ESL, so nothing unbalancing.
