Going for Gold

Third time lucky in trying to finish this post. If I get down to the last team again and lose I just might well scream! So here is my anual prediction of who is going to win the league title this year. If I get time I will try and do the other two divsions aswell!

1) AFC WIMBLEDON:  I was going to start off by commenting on why AFC have two sby keepers on their books but as with tradition Wimbledon´cut throat youth policy has seen poor Gareth Terry being dispensed with aan consigned to MSWL History without having to pick a ball out of his net. He lasted a brief 10 days which maybe some sort of record! Perhaps Youth Director Jorn Andersen  should be dispensed with too for operating such a wasteful and confused youth policy. Apprentice keeper Marvin Schmitt will be feeling nervous right now and even first choice keeper Poulsen might be wondering about his gametime! I was going to say he need not be worried as with a home FA Cup tie and drawing the Rainworth minnows in the AP Cup to long cup runs look assured. However after last session looks like they won´t be progressing further in either Cup! So be warned they only have the League to concentrate on! Despite losing 3 0 to the Miners this is actually a top class club brimming with quality players like the awesome Young and Lloyd up front. Defensively solid and with talented young Leon Kerr added to midfield from the auctions they are now nicely balanced with a T11 at 11.91. Just aswell they do not need any more players as the team are now hovering above bankruptcy. A league title is now a muct for them this season.

2) WORKSOP: Have been flying under the radar for a while, quietly building a formidable team under Manager Miller. This dark horse club are now more akin to a albino tiger waiting camoflaged in the undergwroth to pounce for the club´s first League Title. They have the best T11 in the divsion standing at 12.18 and nearly 3 million in the bank to bring in quality replacements if needed. They really do not need any though as this team is class at every position. They might be on the lookout for a young future alternative to the ageing Cockham as sweeper, but no rush as Cockham is capable of filling the position for the current year.

3) YORK CITY: This team overperformed last year and they look even better now than they did at the start of last season. Last season they gave Shepshed a fight for the title and I think this year we will see more of the same form Manager Tucker´s collection of superstars. In Brown and Captain Andersen they have two quality strikers who most other teams will not want to meet.and overall there is plenty of depth and quality to this team. Getting the balance right of bringing through an app keeper is going to be the main challenge for them and might just derail any title bid. They still havebsome money in the bank too.

4) SHEPSHED: With a strong T11 you can never discount the Master of the Unholy Trinity in any title race, especially when the nephew of occultist Aleister Crowley is in the team. This devilishly hard to beat team won the League last year, but I don´t think they will manage to retain the coveted trophy. The team have an awesome five man pronged attack that can take most teams apart. You just have to question a bit the overall depth in the squad this year as the midfield looks a bit sparse. the glaring hole though in this side is the lask of any recognised sweeper. A hole they will need to fill asap if the have any intention of retaining the trophy. Young Morrissey is plainly not up to standard in this role. Even as an app his level is substandard. Without sorting this issue out they may well find themselves fighting off relegation this year rather than fighting for the title. They do at least have a 3.6 million cash mountain to spend.

5) AFC FYLDE: Fylde have a really nice well balanced team with good to decent players throughout. A couple of top strikers in Martin and Captain Torsten Schmid. The T11 at 11.55 is just a little under the teams mentioned above them, but at that level it does not account for much and does mean Fylde could be there or thereabouts at the end of the season. The one problem they have as is the case with a few teams this year is bringing through an app keeper and that can put a spanner in the works of any title bid. The purchase of another top defender might add a bit more strength at the back.

6) BURTON: Last years predicted winners did not live up to expectations, but maybe they will surprise us and do it this year instead. The T11 stands at 11.55, but again Burton have plenty of cash to boost that and get it closer to the teams above and around them. Like Shepshed they have a dangerous five man pronged attack. Decent midfield and defence. Lindsay the first choice defender is already crocked so that could knock them back a bit at the start of the season, bt a bit of strengthening there might be useful in anycase. Again an app keeper is being brought through and that´s the problem.

7) BOSTON: Another decent looking team that have enough about them to stay out of the relegation zone and even stake a claim to the title. The T11 is strong at 11.82, including two top strikers in Lambert and Thwaite. Defence and Midfield are solid and strong. Another striker could be useful and once more another app keeper to bring through.

8) HALIFAX: I would not be surprised if we do our usual yoyo experience and go straight back down again. Having said that we have spent our cash mountain to strengthen in advance this year and have boosted the T11 to 12, so it is possible if we get a good start to kick our way out of the relegation zone. With a young quality keeper/sweeper in place there is no bringing through an app worry to manage this year. The only worry is a lack of squad depth and a bad injury to McColl in defence is an issue already.

9) HYDE: Hyde have cash and a T11 of 11.55 so may also avoid the yoyo experience, but the strikeforce is not quite as strong as the other teams around them at this level. The other big problem is the weakness at the Sweeper level. They do have a very nice app in Shayne Owen coming through, but it won´t help them this year and might force them to rely on their strong midfield which is better than most at this level.

10) KENDAL: Kendal look like being the vulnerable member of the Unholy Trintity this season. They do have plenty of cash to raise that low T11 of 11.36, but at the moment there are some serious issues at the back. The whole defence is poor and inexperienced and given the firepower they are going to face John Jones is going to have to be at his best to prevent some humiliating drubbings. I just can´t see them surviving at this level.
