Post One Live Song And A Link...
Posted by Allan Sellers on Friday, Apr. 14th, 2023 at 11:57 PM

At the time I didn't know it, but I was probably pretty lucky.  I was a freshman at the U of Illinois in 1985 (the future Jason Halpin's brother's alma mater apparently).

About 20 days into my first year of college we had Farm Aid #1.

These were the people that performed that day:

I was lamenting recently that I never got to see Tom Petty live.  And then I realized I did...at Farm Aid.  This is my favorite Farm Aid/Tom Petty live video:

I was on the "field" and not far from the stage.  Look for the nerd in big glasses.

What is your favorite live video (and link)?

This is a really bad week for this thread considering I've been sending out the live performance of Croatia's Eurovision qualifying entry to anyone who didn't ask.

Ummm...where's that delete button for my post...

That's an incredible list - not just the quality but also the quantity - did they just do one number each?  i notice the more recent line-ups are a lot thinner

Martyn Hathaway on Monday, Apr. 17th, 2023 at 5:55 PM

Martyn: The list I shared is the way I remember what I saw.  In hindsight, I was lucky to see so many great performers/bands in one day.  But I have to look up some of this to remember it.

Mostly though it was a combination of things.  Like sometimes one person would come out and play a song or two with another band.  So usually 2-4 song sets.

But I remember...

- Bob Dylan

- Bon Jovi

- John Fogerty

- John Mellencamp

- Johnny Cash

- Lone Justice

- Neil Young

- Roy Orbison

- Sammy Hagar and "Van Halen/Hagar"

- Tom Petty

- Willie Nelson

- X

My favorites at the time were definitely:

- Tom Petty

- John Mellencamp

- Neil Young

It was just 2 months after Live Aid I think and had that similar format of 2-4 songs per act.
