The Session 8 Deadline...
Posted by Al Sellers on Sunday, Dec. 25th, 2011 at 1:51 AM

The Session 8 deadline is very important.

Some key decisions are…

1) Do I sell one or more players to earn some income (remember you can NEVER go below 18 players during the season).

2) Do I keep some players knowing they will drop in value, BUT they will be around a couple more seasons to earn CP?

3) Do I gamble and sell of MANY players and HOPE I can buy some low cost players next season to earn a CP per session from them?

Here's the relevant rules snippet:

12.4  THE TRANSFER DEADLINE

No transfers between players or sales to the non-league are allowed in the last 3 sessions of the season (8, 9, and 10), and there will be no auction in these sessions (nor is there one in session 7. To clarify the timing of this, no transfers or non-league sales can occur once the session 8 deadline passes (so if you want to sell a player, you MUST do so before session 8 matches start AND you must NOT have him in your session 8 lineup).  After the transfer deadline, the next opportunity for deals / sales is after aging in the close season.

Some practical scenarios here:

1) What if I have an Age V/5 player?  Well, you don't…YET!   But if you did you COULD STILL make him a BRB in session 8, 9, or 10 (but not after the session 10 deadline).  If you did that though he'd be an Age I BRB for just a session or two and then age to Age II for the next season.   This isn't as relevant for our season 1 but just a heads-up for next season.  YOU CAN CONVERT A PLAYER TO A BRB AFTER THE SESSION 8 DEADLINE.

To be clear, if he were age V/5 AND the session 10 deadline had passed AND you hadn't converted him to a BRB, he'd age out and retire.

2) I have players that will be worth less money after aging, what should I do?

Well, that's up to you.  Some examples though.

A III/11 is worth 360k now and as a IV/7, after aging, worth 150k.    To sell him at 360k you MUST do so prior to the session 8 deadline.  If you don't, you can't sell him until AFTER he ages and is then a IV/7 worth 150k.   So the tradeoff here is you'd lose the 3 CP you'd get for him in sessions 8, 9, and 10 (if he wasn't injured) AND the ability to play him in those sessions.  You'd also lose a player that was aging into IV/7 and then the next season at V/2 where he'd be a BRB. So that would be another implication.

And you can't sell everyone.  You must remain at 18 players or higher on your roster.  However, note end of season aging may move you below 18 whereby I will immediately harass you about adding SBYs.

Anyway, player sales are up to you.  You might even want to advertise who you are selling to see if you can make 5, 10, 20, 50k above their NLS value and just trade them for the money instead.

Each season there is a strong market in MSWL UNITED for players who are, like, IV/2.  That is they will be CP earners and don't cost much or are worth much. In fact a IV/2 has a sales value of 0k but would probably sell for 20-40k.

3) The key in all of the above is that you can't sell players after the session 8 deadline until AFTER they age.  So to get their current value you need to sell them now.   Nor can you make trades after this deadline.

What you CAN STILL DO after the session 8 deadline is discover a SBY/APP (if they are available - see your transactions page) and move a player to BRB (though none of have Age V players at this point to do that…but you will next season).

I just wanted to share the above.

For the folks use to this setup, especially those in MSWL UNITED now, please pass along/clarify any of the points above as needed.

Also, if you have questions, now is the time to ask on this thread and feel free to do so.

Al
