Penalty Kicks & Reality
Posted by Al Sellers on Wednesday, Apr. 18th, 2012 at 10:25 PM

Bill Bushby writes...

FORGIVE ME IF THIS COMES ACROSS AS BITTER.....

....It really isn`t mean`t to sound that way, Worksop appear to have been relegated and that is fair enough, BUT..regardless of the outcome to our season, of which i have thoroughly enjoyed by the way.....

BUT.... it has to be said.....There are way TOO many...I repeat..there are WAY TOO MANY penalties in this league !

SERIOUSLY...way too many penalties !

And we would have gone down anyway........so not a case of being a bad loser, but really guys............

WAY TOO MANY PENALTY KICKS, and its not even close to being realistic.

Other than that complaint.........i`ve loved every week of my first season and WORKSOP TOWN will bounce straight back next season, NO DOUBT

OH and by the way.........did i mention about the penlties ?????

No...you don't come across as bitter at all Bill...not with the various ALL CAPS to state your opinion.

But that's what it is...an opinion.

Keep in mind you are playing a "resource management game", not a realistic soccer game that is devoted to keeping its metrics (goals, PKs, etc) strictly in line with real-life leagues.   If it did we'd also have to account for "goals that went in that the ref didn't see".

You may experience too many penalties because (uh oh...here come the ALL CAPS) YOU PLAYED A HIGH LEVEL OF TEAM HARDNESS.

By doing that you helped your team with more points to allocate at the various areas for potential scoring/shot saving opportunities.  But you also:

1) Increased the chances of giving up PKs

2) Increased the chance of the opposition getting injuries (and increased your own team's chances a little)

3) Increased the chances of your team getting yellow and/or red cards

The game didn't dish out those penalties because it had a desire to be realistic.   It simply looked at your (uh oh all caps again) VERY HIGH TEAM HARDNESS LEVEL and said...hmmm...the rules (that anyone can look at) say I, the simulator, have to check Worksop Town 8 times at a 10% chance each time to see if Bill's team will be giving up some PKs.  I, the simulator, don't really want to do this.  I know Bill might get mad and yell at me, but there we are...

Hopefully this comes across in the "tongue in cheek" manner its intended...but with the facts.

The facts are that if you do what Worksop did, you will have consequences that could be negative (or they could be positive too in that you get the extra attacks to win).   If you don't want to give up PKs, set team hardness to 0 and the poor simulator (who's feelings are already hurt by Bill's tirade) will only have to check your team one time at a 5% chance of awarding a PK and you'll be much happier...maybe.

Al
