Progress Round Up (Session 4)
Posted by Vick Hall on Friday, Apr. 29th, 2022 at 2:26 PM

Well suffice to say the first three sessions have been interesting. The first session we tried to sneak an away win at Albuquerque in the hope Micki´s best players would be travelling to her Dad´s place to get some McIntosh bragging rights. Instead they stayed at home and we were lucky to get the win. The downside to this was losing our home conference game as our strategy backfired. We did at least pick up a good win in the WGM Cup.

Session 2: After the hickups in the first session our revised strategy was to ensure we won our home game. Losing two home conference games in a row was not an acceptable outcome. San Diego came to win aswell so we needed our best players too as it turned out. At first with our other two matches I was going to try and press our advantage in the Cup and go for another win, but that would have meant rolling over at Carlsbad and we could not bring ourselves to do that. So the conference game got our B team and the A team paid the Chameleons a visit. As expected we lost the cup match, but also got beat by Carlsbad despite us fielding aalmost as good! In fact we lost all three sets and I´m not sure how that came to pass as Carlsbad only had a C+ Libero and one C+ OH on the pitch. Looking at the game summary it would look like the Shrimps blocking capabilities were just too weak in comparison to the Chameleons whose MB´s are both formidable players. Tucker Pierce my RS also made a lot of attaking errors so I suspect these two factors did for us here. The home bonus is clearly very hard to overcome unless maybe you have a superfit team of players. So overall noot a good session.

Session 3: Back to basics. Did not even try to win the away conference game and instead went for another win in the cup and a win at home. The youngsters even stole a set in my away game, whilst we won the other two games. The cup win also put us top of the group with a home game in the next round which hopefully we can make the most of. So a good session finally!

What is all this talk of strategy, ratings and positions?

I just throw the kit in the middle of the room and let the players fight over who gets what shirt whilst I amuse myself watching Netflix (in the stands with the reserves obviously)

I like that plan CB...please do that in the Dallas - Quincy match, but put the reserves on the court...
