Fitness First (Session 2)
Posted by Vick Hall on Friday, Sep. 15th, 2023 at 2:49 PM

Well our tried and tested fitness first strategy has resulted in another three game loss opening session so we might have to revise this strategy in future as it leaves a sour taste in the mouth! On the plus side the bulk of the side are now fit including key seniors so this session should go a lot better. However, the good seedingin the WGM cup now looks a step too far so better concentrate on the conference games maybe as sitting rock bottom in the table means there is now already a long climb ahead to get to the top!

Seems a popular plan that I might have to revisit. I noticed neither Quincy nor Cincinnati used CP on players but rather on FIT and are both 2-1. St Charles mostly rested their best players to get their T7 fit and went 0-3.

Just play them all. All the time. Cross your fingers. #wingit is the way forward

Fitness is for personal trainers

I struggle so much justifying spending CP on fitness. It's so expensive. Yes, it impacts multiple categories, but it's temporary (at best a full season, but potentially less if you need to play someone 3x in a session). Also, with the amount of players' stats that need CP over the course of the season, I never have enough left over for Fit.

I generally can't justify using CP on Fit. The exception is when I only have two players in a given position and it's impossible to rest them for a full session early in the season to get their fitness up.

I have great and helpful advice for Vick, Rob, and Jason. If you deliberately lose in the first or second round of the WGM knockout rounds, and throw your opening conference tourney match, you'll get two 2-game sessions in the 7th and 8th weekends of the season. That allows you to get up your Fit on those pesky positions where you only have 2 players and can't rest up as you'd like. Simply play your B-teams in the tourneys and you'll be swimming in +1 Fit players by session 9 each season. No need for thanks. Glad to help.

For me it's a choice between getting fit fast by throwing the first session (St Charles), getting fit fast by spending CP at the risk of not having enough for all your players  skills (Quincy) or a but of both (Columbia).

I've had a think and crunched some numbers and know what I'm doing next season.

Thanks, Kevin. I'll take it under advisement. It's a good thing we have no use for XP!

I used to rest all the stars in session 1 and take the losses, until I decided Top seeding in the WGM was more important.  Now I use a rest and train fitness approach, which should mean I win 1 or 2 games in session 1.    I think the up tick in performance from having a fully fit squad overrides the loss in a few levels at the end of the season.
