Interesting tactics (Session 2)
Posted by Steve Turner on Sunday, Jul. 31st, 2022 at 4:24 PM

Anyone looked at Quincy's team? Not a single CP spent on coaching players. All CP spent was on FIT. I think I counted 5 of their T7 are FIT 1. By comparison Columbia have 3 such players.

Maybe the Quincy coach just forgot to CP any players.  Is that a possibility?  :-)

I sure would not want to play Pekin in session 2 with Roger and his T-7 all at FIT 1...

This brings about the question I struggle with... is it really worth it to CP FIT on anyone? Freshman should get to FIT 1 naturally... and it feels so expensive to CP FIT on your JRs and SRs...

Rob Peterson on Tuesday, Sep. 6th, 2022 at 6:48 PM

I think it is only worth it to do it if the situation presents itself.

For 4-match sessions and you want to try to win at least 3.  Maybe.

As a strategy its not so much for me to get them to FIT 1 (although yes I'm trying to do that early in the season because Steve taught me that way)...it then becomes situational to "keep" that FIT 1 after the current session you are in so that NEXT session those key players will still be at FIT 1.

CP on a Sr is hard to allocate at 16 CPs, you are right Rob.

Juniors its a little easier.

I do it for a Fr OH because as someone (Craig) would say...I've already told my lesser skilled So OH to go sit in the bleachers and watch Netflix because he will not be playing.  Which leads me to a 3-man OH setup...which leads to more CP for FIT situations.

Again, these are just my ideas.  I'm probably not following everything Steve taught me in an optimal way so we will need Steve to weigh in here...

Bleachers....always thought that's an odd word for benches/seats.....and makes me think of the stinky/disinfectant/planet killing stuff of the same name....do you have bleach in the US or do you call it something else?

My plan this season was to play my T7 for the first round of matches, rest the Freshman etc and CP them.

Then rest the T7 for the second round (yes it's likely you'll lose, so it's a choice)

This way your second string have gained +1 fitness and a +1 booster to a skill here or there for that second round and come the 3rd round of matches you have a pretty much +1 fitness squad of players.

CB: Yes in high school or college they are often called bleachers.  No, nothing is bleached (and I refuse to break my rules about politics and talk about the health benefits of bleach).  Yes, its called bleach.  ?

For some college and pro sports they are called seats (baseball calls them "box seats").  Nobody sits on a bench.  ?

Roy: I like the strategy.

Roger: See session 1 on what Roger did.  ?

CPing Fir? Seeing as Al has put me on the spot.

Consider Carlsbad with a Junior Libero. He's received 26 CP to improve RCV and DEF. He'll probably get XP  for SRV and next season be on 12 15 13. I think he got 14 CP for DEF first session so was 11 14 12 for the second.

Now how about using just 12 CP and he's 12 15 13 from session 2 onwards.

But what about next season when he's only 12 14 12? Well give him 16 CP for fit and he's 13 15 13 anyway.

It only costs 2CP more and you get a better SRV and SET as it happens and the same RCV and DEF.

Slight mistakes. The 14 CP was for RCV and this made it 11 15 12.

Also for his senior year he plays the first session  ad 12 14 12 so down on what it will be but for the next 11 he'll Serve better.

I just kinda fumble my way through session by session. I'm sure a future rule change will discourage that type of incorrigible behavior.

Phil McIntosh on Saturday, Sep. 10th, 2022 at 7:21 PM

My fit strategy this season felt like a no brainer, but very specific to Pekin's particular circumstance (coupled with my lack of knowledge as to how the game worked).

Main issues were:

* (from a quick glance at the stats) Pekin had the worst roster and second worst T14 in the whole league, but a reasonable T7 that meant I could be competitive when I had my best team playing

* a session 1 draw pitting me against 3 Q1 teams where even my best team would probably lose heavily,

* no realistic expectations of winning the Conference or progressing in the WGM - so no need to worry about the impact of a few early losses,

* only a handful of players worth coaching - which could easily be done using expected CPs / XP with quite a bit leftover,

* and the lack of United style injuries, which guarantees that your investment lasts all season.

So no real downsides, but then the whole rest of the season with a souped-up top team.

Will I do it again next season? Probably, although a lot will depend on the WGM Cup draw.

What is it with everyone and Quincy!?!? Did I miss something?
