Ponderings of a Panda (Session 3)
Posted by Roy Rolsten on Tuesday, Apr. 19th, 2022 at 1:56 PM

Well I'm enjoying the game so far. The Red Pandas got off to a great start winning their first match vs Starkville 3-0.

Then there was an away loss to Teutopolis before a 3-0 win vs Mendon in the WGM Cup game. I seemed to be picking the game up ok, Steve commented that the Red Pandas were one of the better new teams, which I'll take. All good.

Then I looked at the second session games and Al said I'd be lucky to win one game vs three teams in the top #8 of the T-7 rankings. Fair enough, despite the odds I went for the win at home the Baton Rouge and we took a set off them (they've only lost 3 sets so far) to lose 3-1. Next up was New Orleans away and I decided that discretion was the better part of valour and rotated players to gain fitness and give freshman more game time to get XP. Then we had the cup vs Max's St Charles, possibly our better chance of a win from the session. And it started well and we won the first set 30-28. But then like the 2021 NCAA Women's Championship St Charles came back just like Arizona did to win 3-1.

Next up we have Kittens, Raccoons and Anglerfish

An alternate name for this article could be: "Panda Ponderings".  :-)

It is still a good strategy to go for the home wins.  You have the advantage, not the away team, so you may as well use it.  But Mr. Halpin is tough, as we all know, to beat.

Good luck!
