The Mushrooms don´t know how to play (uh, how to win) (Session 11)
Posted by Pierre van Rossum on Wednesday, Feb. 21st, 2024 at 6:25 PM

Looking at the results of the last 3 weeks I´ve noticed the following:

match 25 against Red Pandas, overall skill 78-83, result 1-3
match 26 against Moose         , overall skill 79-84, result 0-3

match 29, against Winged Hogs, ov'ral skill 77-81, result 1-3
match 30, against Twisters      , overall skill 82-85, result 0-3
match 33, against Chameleons, overal skill 83-81, result 3-2

match 34, against Gargoyles   , overall skill 75-73, result 1-3
match 35, against Artichokes   , overall skill 82-84, result 2-3
match 38, against Anglerfish    , overall skill 83-83, result 1-3

In the last 3 weeks we only have played close games looking at the overall skill. Except the game against the Chameleons we didn't win. Ok, some games the Mushrooms has a little disadvantage looking at the overall skill, but the Mushrooms couldn't make an upset victory. Last weekend was the pinnacle (do I say this correctly?) with 75-73, 82-84 and 83-83 but 0-3 in results. We just couldn't win cluch games and need to figure it out.

If in doubt it's always random noise

The Hounds e.g. had a somewhat struggling start to the season - and have turned it around, purely by luck

Pierre, there is no guarantee it would make any difference but I looked at the Antioch game. It's generally thought that by some that you want your best servers serving early in the set. I noticed you had MB Solomon (SRV 13) at III and your Libero (SRV 17) for the other MB at VI. Your Libero only served as many rotations as the other five once. Three of the sets finished before he served again.

Also Solomon is a weaker Blocker than Milroy (not by much) and he was at the net for the first two rotations.

Thanks Eduard and Steve for your comments.

I´ve realised it also is some luck or bad luck and there is a random factor (I just don't like it when it's against me :).

And thanks for the tip, Steve. I will look more closely to my line up next sessions.

When you work out how to win, let me know how.
