One issue I have with the tax rules is that you are taxed 10% of your complete cash - instead of the amount above 3500k.

So you're better off finishing just below 3500k - leading to some "silly" transfer decisions ahead.

But ok, it's established and everyone knows the rule. So no serious need to change it.

Where do those tax payments go? Does Al have a boat payment due?

It just breaks me heart to see Luton Town have their pockets pinched by the Taxman! Poor Mike. 

Post tax LUT still qualifies for the tax!

Coaches Poll should function reasonably well after some changes I made this evening.  The only To Do I have is to add the media bonus.  It is on my list, but I'm not sure yet when I'll knock it out.  I believe I have it setup in TMVL as 5 (k in this case) to vote and 5 to comment.  Again though, its not there yet.  I'll let you know when it is.

Deadline will now show at the top of the page for each session.  

The new stats page I worked on recently will be, for now, called NEW STATS and appear in the 2nd menu at the top in lighter gray.  That also will have a 5k media bonus for comments.  Hoping to add that media bonus piece soon.

Once I get that in place I'll probably do a pause on updates for United for a bit.

The rules say you cannot trade a BRB.

Here's the reality.  You can.  This comes up every few years.  I believe the original intent was that we didn't necessarily want people swapping like "Age II" BRBs or something.

The trade page does allow it.  I'm not interested in manually enforcing it.   Automating it would take me 10+ hours of changes/testing the trading page which I have absolutely no interest or priority in doing.  Right now I'm working in the background to add some more U1/U2 features (something I haven't done in years) and I'm not keen on being derailed by something like this.  So...trading BRBs is now allowed officially from this moment in time forward!  😎

Who has some occasional time and an excellent attention to detail to take ownership of the rules set so we can update things like this and I can post the updates on the website.  The rules can be worked on if you have Google docs or MS Word, either should work.  I need a volunteer.

The final session in the Third Division ought to be very interesting. Four teams separated by two points vying for two promotion spots.

Luckily I spotted this before I sold one of my I/10 MFs as this would have put me over and effectively meant he sold for 125k. I wish I'd realised before I sold one of the other two players.

Two things:

1) I added a task to try to add something to a tab (maybe make CP Info CP/Bank Info) to show your cash at the beginning and end of a session.  I can see where that would be helpful.  I'll see if I can get that in place within 12 months.  

The task itself is a medium level effort since there's different ways to update bank during the session:

- sell a player

- trade a player

- buy a player

As well as showing any Media bonus and divisional earnings (you get k for the division you are in each session).  So I need to check in multiple spots.  Its now on my list.  

In TMVL its cleaner as its a once a week thing and easier to track.  And also in TMVL it is really helpful to know it so I get the benefits and believe it is needed here.  

2) Let me know if you "really" think there's an issue with the incorrect amount of bank being used for auctions.  Below are the pre-session bank totals I took from db backup before the session ran...

I will make mistakes and there will be things to fix, but other than Olmec not liking you, please don't assume there's an issue without some investigation... 😎

To say I am gutted would be an understatement.  Last season I dropped out of the promotion places after the final round of matches, losing out on promotion by one point.  This season, the same but on goal difference alone.  I will just crawl away now and sob in a corner

I am deeply disturbed to discover from Kevin's post that there is an Al program on my phone? How did Al manage that? Who among us can compete against Al when he has a program on our devices. Al is out of control! I'm now searching the apps on my phone so I can find the one with the photo of Al's smiling face...the is surely the Al program. And, yes, Kevin and Steve...this is Madness!

So, is Steve telling us that he deliberately puts in "fake orders" each week to start, just in case someone is spying on him. And then changes those at the last minute to what he's really doing, like real life managers do through the media to try to throw off the opposition's planning?  Genius.  You never know if your phone carrier's AI program has a personal beef against your team (imagined or real) and relays that info out to someone else through an "anonymous" e-mail or text.  Big Brother is always watching, and he might be friends with Olmec.

Yesterday evening after travelling down to the coast to see my eldest step-daughter I did my orders for Forest in United then came over to U2. Only to see I already had orders in. What I didn't remember was this wasn't a proper set of orders - I have no idea what I was playing at with the Youth Cup game with the two FWs I picked and couldn't work out why we were so weak in the game.

And because of that I don't even know if the other games were as I would have done.

One of the issues I had in the end of season processing was a mundane, boring (except it would break things) detail that was annoying.  Essentially I have some code in the database (a function) that gets called everytime a player is added or has stats updated.  That caused me a lot of U2 headaches.  I've moved the code from the DB to a web page so that should help keep it up to date and avoid these weird DB issues I get (and have to police) where teams might drop below (or just near) 18 players after end of season aging.

Again, you won't care about this update, but it should prevent issues like the U2 "had to fix the RSD and QNL" thing.  More updates/improvements to come as I have time.

I asked Ian for javascript coding help this week.  My expectation was that he would just write it for me and make it work.  ?

Sadly, he did not.  I've had something I've been puzzing over (to the tune of spending 2-3 evening hours on it for 2 weeks with no results) in TMVL to enhance a viewer that has frustrated me.

Please allow myself to let me be perfectly clear.  Ian did not fix the issue (as I hoped). ? 

However he did have some inspiring/helpful words that allowed me to rethink a couple of things.  I had a breakthrough on this today and made some good progress.

What does that mean to you and why do you care?  Good Karma may mean the shackles are coming off the code that has prevented Sweepers from showing up in any auctions.  Maybe.

I'm unable to pull up the post by Martyn from June. One can only assume by the title that Martyn is entering a period of self-reflection. We're here for you buddy.

Considering the number of United and United-like leagues I have played in and even GMed, I really should be better.  Bridgwater have dropped out of Division Two with a whimper.  A victory in either of our last two games would have kept us up, but no, too much to hope for.  I think this squad needs a serious overhaul or perhaps, as in real life, the manager needs the sack

Yes, I think what you have written is correct!

Help needed please chaps....just want to check my understanding of APP/SBY increases....

APP = plays 4 games (max 2 per session), gains a level, max gains in a season = 5. If he plays any extra games these are lost at the end of the season

SBY = plays 3 games (max 1 per session), gains a level, max gains in a season = 3. If he plays extra games these are carried over to the next season when he becomes an APP (this would be a max of 1 or 2 games depending on whether you had a Youth Director at the beginning of the season and gained the +1 to qualifying games?)

The 4-1 win was certainly unfortunate for you but it felt like a Mickey take as we get good fortune when it makes no difference. All the bad results previously did for us.

Like the Youth Cup loss against Kingstonian where we were favourites but injuries killed our hopes - and no Youth Cup means a struggle in the league. 

Or all the 5% penalties we seen to suffer.

I do feel your pain though Craig. We were top of Div 2 in United 1 and despite better chances of winning we lost our first game. A win and were promoted.

I vote for an Olmec Hates Me poll because I reckon it's the only thing I stand a chance of winning....

Why? I hear you ask....evidence:

And they're only the games I could be bothered to look at so there are bound to be hundreds the same.

So, to break it down this is why Olmec Hates Me the most:

1) We create more than our opponent = we lose

2) We have more shots than our opponent = we lose

3) Our shots to goals ratio is...maths help please (and it is maths with an 's' so there my American friends)...can't @rsed to work it out...BUT....it's rubbish whereas our opponents' is awesome

4) Steve at Ilkeston is the current Olmec Hates Me trophy holder....however, as the above table evidences, Olmec Hates Me significantly more as his Ilkeston side had a near 50% conversion against our measly ermm...calculator check....7.5%!! Now THAT is dire.

5) The Prairie Dogs/Beavers etc have not won at our place for SEVEN season....Big Al plays mind games with Olmec and Olmec 'buys it'. Sigh. (To be fair...it also completely messed with my head too)

Anyway, it is for all those many and varied reasons why I believe I should be awarded the Olmec Hates Me (the most) Trophy for Season 30.

I'm happy with Poll but it's a foregone conclusion so give me the trophy please.

Goal Difference is a little crazy in this game. CLE still have an outside shot at promotion from D2 with a GD of -15 right now. Goals For looks like more reliably correlated to league position in the table.

The pedantic answer of course is no, since goal differential isn't a real thing - it's goal difference, no calculus necessary.

The other answer, also correct, is Halifax were fifth with -15 a few years back, Welling finished second with a +1 GD, Harrogate finished fourth with a -13 in S17... so it's unlikely but very possible

Boston sits in 5th place in D1, 6 points out of 2nd place and 5 points out of the relegation zone... solid middle of the pack. Yet, we have a -9 GD... has anyone ever been this high up in the standings with such a poor goal differential??

well in truth it was really an accumulator but read in the paper today some poor old guy just won 2.5K picking 8 football draws on a three pence bet. nice one.

Isn't it bizarre how when you start talking/typing/thinking about a subject, in this case the football pools, you get several 'oh yeah, that happened too' moments....anyway, here's another!!! (But this is the final one....I think!)

In the UK and possibly elsewhere?? The Saturday newspapers (in most cases) show the days football fixtures (as well has horse racing stuff and anything else that's happening in the world of sport - and no, for my UK based readers, I do not mean the 80's TV programme of the same name lol!).

Anyway, these were (and still are!) displayed a bit like the following on the inside of the back page of the paper (my mums paper of choice was the Daily Mirror):

Leeds United v Man Utd................

Tottenham v Chelski......................

Norwich v Watford.........................

You get the idea. The line of ....... is there to allow you to write the final score in next to the match and so when you were watching the vidiprinter on Grandstand you would do just that next to the score as it came through...and just so you know what I am rattling on about, here's a link coutesy of you tube - oooooo the memories....I loved it. I'd sit on the floor in front of the TV with the newspaper and fill in the scores. Loved it. Anyway, here's the link:

If you view the link you'll see that the number of score draws are noted at the bottom of the vidiprinter (score draws are worth more than no score draws, if there were too many score draws the winnings reduced massively). So, on this particular Saturday, my older brother hatched a cunning plan to wind up my mum.....he took over the writing of the scores in the paper (much to my disgust) but he'd already noted my mum's predictions for that week....I'm sure you can guess what is coming.....anyway, he wrote all the scores in making sure that my mum's predictions were all draws.

My mum then checked her coupon, my brother and I waited with baited breath for the reaction....but my mum is ever the pessimist and rumbled us in seconds refusing to believe the ruse.

In hindsight, I'm really pleased she bubbled us when she did....can you imagine the fall out had she gone along with it?!?! Our back sides would've been bright red!! lol :)

This is a genuine story of more pools coupon related fun...well, not in this case it wasn't actually.

I was in training for a job about 30 years ago and as is the case with most training courses, it had people from all walks of life and backgrounds.

Anyway, one of the girls came from a crisp factory (this isn't actually relevant but just adds 'fluff' to this story...she also said she never ate crisps from the company she worked for because of what she saw went in to them....but would buy other brands' crisps?!! Surely the processes are all the same??) and she told us her personal experience of the pools...it goes a bit like this...(see how I'm bigging this up? I'm just trying to justify my 40k bonus ;) )

Like many people, her family didn't actually look at the teams/games when selecting their pick of games they thought would be draws, they just chose the same numbers (each fixture had a number - the fixtures themselves could be from English and Scottish leagues normally but in the summer, they'd be from other countries...I remember one of those being Australia and can remember teams like..Clifton Hill, Blackwood and Woodville if memory serves). The completed coupon could either be collected by the 'Pools Man' or posted. They chose to post theirs.....do you know where this is going yet? I'm sure you do.

My colleague was checking the results and those matches drawn and after checking, double and triple checking, they'd won!! And won the jackpot...a cool one million pounds.

Unfortunately, her husband hadn't posted the coupon, it was still in his pocket.

Ouch.

She told us that she didn't speak with him for a week (which I think is pretty good actually..only a week lol :) )

The Prediction League won't let me choose my opponent... silly moral coding! ????

Weird little personal note on our coupon story. I used to be a pools/coupon collector in the village where I lived and used to ride around the village on my bike collecting everyones pools coupons and dropping off thie coupon for the following week. I was still a schoolboy at the time and I think in theory you had to be 18 to do this legally, but i made a lot more money out of this than delivering the local newspapers as most of the people I collected from also gave me a few tips which mounted up especially over Christmas. I remember too that there was one old lady who lived alone who would always invite me in for a glass of ginger wine and a chat.

This is probably for our non-UK friends.....it's a definition of 'coupon busting'

Back in the day (!!) before the internet and mobile phones (ooo, them were the days)...people used to get their betting fix (if that's your bag) by filling in the 'pools' - a paper based way of betting on results of football matches - you fill in the pools 'coupon' with whatever you want (my mum, for example, would try to predict 10 draws I think but you could predict 10 homes, 5 aways etc) and you win if you get them right. Draws, I think, paid the most.

A 'coupon buster' is a result that goes massively against the expected result and thus has the impact of ruining your chances of winning the jackpot.
