End of Season 6 - Reflections...
Posted by Allan Sellers on Sunday, Oct. 24th, 2010 at 10:08 PM

First off, congratulations to the League Champions the Tranmere Rovers.  I've just ticked the League Title box for them and that's their fourth straight league title.  Its an amazing feat for Alon Atie.  Well, maybe not for Alon exactly as he has proved to be an amazing coach in these leagues.  I'd say the Rovers were pushed a bit the past two seasons, but still found their way to the top slot by season's end.  And if that wasn't enough, Tranmere also won the Youth Cup with a 4-2 victory over Rob Baptiste's Crewe Alexandra.  Nice going Alon!

After being edged out by Compo's Cobblers last season in the FA Cup Final (2-1 in extra time), this year it was Hereford's turn to win the big trophy.   The Bulls put 21 shots on the Chesterfield goal.  All were stopped.  But Andy Bate's club finally beat Phil McIntosh's upstarts 4-2 on PKs to earn the title.  Nice going Andy!

James White and Queens Park Rangers earned their first hardware this season with a 2-nil defeat of C-Ball's Lincoln City Imps in the Alan Parr Cup Finale.  QPR even managed to beat Tranmere twice this season so James clearly has this team headed in the right direction.

Dave Dohm earned his first title as head of Lewes FC as the Rooks knocked off Swindon Town (led by Rene Wilkens) 2-nil to win the FA Shield.  It was the second time that Lewes has won this competition.  Congratulations Dr. Doom!

Now for the movers...

Dad, son, and Derek have been relegated as Hereford, Bristol City, and the Brentford Bees will be playing 2nd Division football in season 7.

League favorite Mike Cabral (aka C-Ball) had his Lincoln City club in fine form all season.  Many pundits had them choking at the end (of course I had faith in you all along C-Ball!)  but that just didn't happen.  The Imps held off Cardiff City 3-2 with a 59th minute strike by Victor Carvalho to beat Kevin Martin's Cardiff City Bluebirds and take the 2nd Division on the league's final day.  Congratulations C-Ball!   Cardiff and Nottingham Forest will join C-Ball in the 1st Division as favorites to promote BHA had a dreadful final day losing to Crewe 5-2 and then to Lewes 3-1.  No one is saying Rob and Dave were out to get Dr. Beerman.  Let me say that again, no one is saying that.    Probably just a brief pause for BHA though who will likely earn promotion in Season 7.

Ian Lindsay was voted worst manager of the year...again.

As for the 2nd Division drop zone, Leicester, Swindon, and Southend all were demoted as Fran, Rene, and Dr. Death (especially Dr. Death) will be bringing their unique brand of football to the 3rd division next season.  Guys, please remember to take it easy on the rebuilding Dorchester Town Magpies, your Youth Cup team will be plenty enough to defeat us.

Finally, Trevor Taylor's Derby County Rams dominated the 3rd division and will be promoted.  Nice going Trevor.  Leeds, led by Abe Hamdali and Wycombe led by Mike McLeod were also promoted as Weston-super-Mare AFC, Oldham, and Chesterfield were just a bit off the pace to get into the top three.

We also welcomed Mark Stretch (apparently aka Stretchy) and Jeff Hawker to the league this season as they took on Carlisle and Dag & Red respectively.  Once again, welcome gentlemen!

There you have it gentlemen.  Another great season.  I hope you had fun!

Al

So, Dorchester wins the rebuilding battle at the bottom, but there's still plenty for us all to do down there. At least we seem to be better than the non league teams.

In our defense, Cardiff City beat the Imps 3-2, not the other way around.  That only left us even on points though, and trailing in goal differential thanks to our youth team's beat down by Roy at Forest.  He showed us no mercy in our quest for a draw to slip ahead of Lincoln City.

K-Mart, are you saying that it's all the fault of Roy The Boy?

Andy Bate on Wednesday, Oct. 27th, 2010 at 12:00 AM

Let it be known I hold no ill will toward Rob and Dave for their teams' beat downs on Brighton & Hove this past weekend.  I am sure the lads will move forward and forget our last session, especially when we play Crewe and Lewes twice in season seven.  No reason to anticipate a higher-than-normal level of hardness from the Seagulls at all in those games next season...none at all.

Best of luck, boys!

If Roy and I lived on the same side of the pond, the pints would be on me.  I hadn't even looked at the CRD/NOT result before watching the LIN/CRD match.  So, I took that heartbreaking loss (I thought), only to then see that Roy had made the the LIN/CRD outcome moot.  In the process, he also made BHA mute, a lofty achievement by any standard.

The LIN battle cry is officially changed from Everyone Loves C-Ball to EVERYONE LOVES ROY! (except Kev).

Looking forward to aging taking place so we can get on with the next season.  I love my family and friends, but this is MSWL-United and I need my fix!!!

I\'ve only just spotted this Roy-love-in taking place, think that makes it from bottom of the 3rd division to division 1 in 4 seasons. Still no idea how it happened. Answers on a postcard please!
